What

I designed the book cover for my first novel, "Legend of Geriana: Part One" a fantasy novel.

Legend of Geriana: Part One is about a young girl who faces banishment for failing to transform into her animal form. During her people's annual celebration, she discovers a dark plot against her valley. Follow Geriana on a journey of self discovery and courage as she must find a way to save the people she loves--the people determined to reject her.

How

I generated a concept design of a girl and bear via Midjourney, an AI image generator. After several generated variations and reconfiguring my word prompts, the AI produced the design I wanted, capturing the main characters and story in a captivating portrait.

I had the design, but I ran into a problem: Midjourney only generates a square image. Thankfully, Adobe Photoshop has a new tool in its beta app called "Generative Fill". I was able to use this magnificent new AI to generate the surrounding landscape almost seamlessly (I had to use the Clone Stamp tool on some areas).

I hired an illustrator from the UK to illustrate a cover for my book based on the generated design. The Ai image had a girl standing beside a bear, but I asked for the girl to be riding the bear. This decision was made to create a more eye-catching design by unusually combining two unlike things while visually representing the girl's relationship to bear in the story.

I used P22 Aragon by Adobe Fonts for the book's main title and Adobe Garamond Pro for the secondary headers and body text.

I used a 3D gold texture and drop shadow for the main title and secondary headers to give the text more dimension and separate it from the background.

The book end accents were created in Adobe Express.
